This is such a fun treat to make this month for Valentine's Day!

It is easy, and delicious!!

Recipe:

Use your favorite cinnamon roll dough or the recipe for dough below.

I use a sourdough discard dough recipe but you can use a different sourdough dough recipe or your favorite cinnamon roll dough that is not a sourdough recipe. Any of those will work perfect!

Dough I made:

2 - 2 1/2 C all purpose flour

1.5 T sugar

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp salt

1/2 C softened butter

1 C milk

1/2 C sourdough discard

Need for filling:

-1/4 C butter

-brown sugar

-cinnamon

Glaze:

-1 T melted butter

-5 T milk

-1 C powdered sugar (can add a little more to sweeten it more and to make it thicker)

mix all of the ingredients together except for the flour. Add the flour in 1 C at a time until you have a nice soft dough that is not sticky. You will need to pour onto the counter towards the end and knead for a minute adding a little bit of flour to reach that smooth not sticky consistency.

Place in covered bowl and let sit on counter for 4 hours.

Pour dough onto floured surface and divide into two equal parts. Roll each half out to about 1/2-3/4 inch thickness. Place gently on top of one another and cut a large heart shape out. Make it as large as will fit on your baking sheet.

Once your pieces are cut into large hearts remove the top layer and set aside. Put the bottom layer on a piece of parchment paper.

Melt 1/4 C of butter and spread onto the bottom heart layer. Sprinkle brown sugar all over, and then sprinkle cinnamon all over that layer as well. Put the top heart layer back on top of the bottom layer and filling.

If you have a heart shape cookie cutter you can now put that on top of the top layer in the center of the large heart. Gently press it into the dough not cutting through the dough just leaving a slight heart imprint in the top layer.

If you don't have a cookie cutter you can print a heart out put in center of dough. Then take a knife and gently trace the paper heart so you can have the heart shape in your dough.

Using a pizza cutter or knife cut lines from the outside of the large heart all of the way in to the edge of the heart cookie cutter or paper. Do this all around the large heart leaving about 1.5 inches in between each cut. You can then remove the cookie cutter or paper heart

Once all of the lines are cut you can gently twist each section around 3 times for the twist.

Then slide your parchment paper onto the baking sheet.

Bake at the temperature your dough recipe calls for but increase the time to about 20ish minutes checking every so often until it is browned on the top to your liking.

If using this dough recipe bake at 350 degrees F for 25-30 minutes checking every few minutes until it is browned to your liking.

When you pull it out of the oven let it cool for a few minutes then brush with melted butter and top with a sprinkling of powdered sugar.

GLAZE:

heat butter and milk until combined then add powdered sugar. I find it easiest to heat the milk and butter until butter is melted then add the liquid and powdered sugar to a blender or food processor and blend together. Add a little more powdered sugar until the glaze is the consistency you want it and the sweetness is how you like it.

When you are ready to eat the bread pour the glaze on top! Or keep it on the side to dip it in.
